About the Book
This is the first book that presents a scientific analysis of the voice quality of the legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar. The extraordinary quality of her voice is hereby endorsed through a careful analysis of timbre (quality of sound) analysis of one of her recordings. The book also presents a statistical analysis of her singing style and a probabilistic analysis of some of her selected songs in different eras. The strong influence of Hindustani ragas in her music and songs rendered by her composed by veteran composers are analyzed in detail. There is also a biographical sketch of her life and the important events taking place therein. The book would be useful to musicians, musicologists, students and researchers of music and musicology, especially computational musicology.
