Mikko Autere
Mikko Autere (formerly Mikko Viitamäki) is University Lecturer in South Asian Studies at the University of Helsinki and serves as University Lecturer in Islamic Theology in the Faculty of Theology. He received his PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from the University of Helsinki in 2015. His research focuses on Sufi literature and religious practice in South Asia, with particular emphasis on Persian and Urdu poetry, Sufi hagiography, aesthetics, and Islamic intellectual history. He teaches Hindi, Urdu, Persian, Sanskrit texts, Sufism, and South Asian literature and culture. He is the author of
Poetry in Sufi Practice: Patrons, Poets and Performers in South Asian Sufism from Thirteenth Century to the Present
. His publications have appeared under both the names Mikko Viitamäki and Mikko Autere.
