The integration of the spiritual and the practical is the very culture and tradition of India. R.K. Narayan represents with exceptional clarity and sensitivity the Indian tradition, by presenting the interaction between mundane and transcendent aspects of everyday Indian life. About the Author
Mary Beatina O.S.M.
Mary Beatina is the Principal of St. Mary's College, Tuticorin, South India. She is an Indian, and received her M.A. from the MK University, South India, and her Ph.D. from Loyola University of Chicago. Her article on The Guide of R.K. Narayan has been accepted for Geoffrey Kain's R.K. Narayan: International Critical Perspectives. She has also contributed to Religion and Literature in Post/Neocolonial Cultures.
